Experience the Future of Wireless Indoor Location Accuracy. Unlike a wireline call, indoor mobile 9-1-1 calls are challenging to precisely locate and do not provide an address for emergency responders. While at the APCO annual Conference and Expo you can experience the future of 9-1-1 dispatchable addresses today.
If you have an iPhone 4s, 5 or 6 and you download this app, you can test and experience how beacon technology can bring a wireline equivalent dispatchable location (address) to mobile 9-1-1 calls.
Bluetooth Low Energy beacons have been installed around Halls A and B and many of the seminar rooms. Once you install the E911Beacon app you will be able make simulated 9-1-1 calls to experience this technology.
Once the app is launched, press the "Get 9-1-1 Location" button to place a simulated 9-1-1 call. You can also store this number in your phone book rather than opening the app. The simulated PSAP will answer the call and query the NEAD (National Emergency Address Database) for the phones dispatchable location (address) and read the location to you. This is the same location that telecommunicators will pass on to first responders when these services go live.
NOTE: This app occasionally uses GPS in the background to determine if you are at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. When you are onsite, this app will scan for beacon technology setup at the venue. When you are offsite, neither the GPS or beacon scanner are in use. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. We have taken every precaution to prevent this from happening.
